Killer whale in Kerry!
It's not every day you happen upon a killer whale on Ireland's coastline, but this week photographer Richard Creagh managed to capture some extraordinary footage.
This orca is a special one however. 'Joe Coe' as he is fondly known, is one of the best known killer whales in the neighbourhood, and was first photographed off the Scottish Hebrides back in 1983.
Due to a large notch on the base of the trailing edge of his dorsal fin, Joe Coe is quickly identifiable and was last spotted in Irish waters in 2013 when he was sighted off the coast of Mayo.
It's still a rare occurrence. Have you spotted any interesting or unusual wildlife recently while out and about?
If so, then send us your photos to editor@westmeathindependent.ie
