Athlone set for water charges protest
A water charge protest will be held in Athlone this Saturday, November 1, as part of a national day of protests in villages and towns across the country.
The protest march will begin from Ss Peter & Paul’s Church at 2pm on Saturday, and there will be a number of speakers again on the day, including Peadar Doyle, who also addressed the last protest march.
The protest had originally been planned for October 25 but following the national protest march in Dublin earlier this month, it was decided November 1 should become a day of national protest against the water charges, with protests held simultaneously in towns and villages across the country, being dubbed the National Right 2 Water Rally.
The march will start at St Peters Square at 2pm on Saturday and will proceed via Connaught Street, Pearse Street, the town bridge, Church Street, John Broderick Street, Golden Island, Irishtown and finishing with a rally at the civic centre.
