Dublin gathering this weekend to honour lives lost in france
A public gathering is being held tomorrow (Saturday) in Dublin, to commemorate the journalists and police officers who were killed at the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris earlier this week.
The event is being organised by NUJ, the union for journalists in Ireland, in remembrance and solidarity with their French colleagues and the people of France, following the murders on Wednesday.
Members of the public are invited to gather at Dubh Linn garden, Dublin Castle, at 11am.
Participants will be joined by French Ambassador to Ireland Jean-Pierre, who will deliver a brief address along with Gerry Curran, Cathaoirleach of the Irish Executive Council of the NUJ.
The event will begin with a roll call of the victims and a minute’s silence, and will end with a lament played by renowned Irish piper Néilidh Mulligan.
Staff at the Westmeath Independent newspaper joined an international minute of silence yesterday (Thursday) at 11am, in honour of those who died on Wednesday.
