Local quartet help Defence Forces to football victory
St Peter’s striker Noel McGee was the hero as the Irish Defence Forces overcame the UK Armed Forces in a friendly on Wednesday.
McGee’s 89th minute header gave the Irish a 1-0 victory over the UK Armed Forces in Kilkenny.
There was very little between the two teams until McGee pounced to head in the winning goal.
His St Peter’s teammates Niall Scullion and Scott Delaney also featured for the Irish side, along with Willow Park’s Aidan Browne and Birr Town’s Craig Shortt.
Scullion, the St Peter’s captain, also received the official man of the match award.

Meanwhile, St Peter’s have confirmed that entry to the refixture of their FAI Junior Cup semi final against Pike Rovers on Wednesday next in Leah Victoria Park, Tullamore, will be free.
Admission to the FAI Senior Cup first round game against Leeside of Cork on Saturday in Leah Victoria Park, Tullamore (5pm),will be €5 with kids free.
Ticket prices have been set the FAI.
In CCFL action, Willow Park’s 2-2 draw at home to Monksland Utd on Tuesday night was a major blow to their hopes of securing a ninth consecutive CCFL senior division league title.
They are now five points behind leader St Peter’s, who also have a game in hand. Peter’s have six games to play. The sides are due to meet twice in the league before the end of the season.
Meanwhile, Willow Park travel to Dublin kingpins Sheriff Utd on Friday night in the last eight of the Leinster Junior Cup (kick off 7.45pm on the Clontarf Astro)
