ADSL to finish in top six at prestigious Kennedy Cup
THE Athlone & District Schoolboy League are on track to finish in the top six at this year’s Kennedy Cup tournament after winning their Kennedy Plate semi-final against Limerick County earlier today (Thursday).
Athlone surprised many observers by topping their group at the tournament earlier in the week when they enjoyed excellent wins against both Waterford and Inishowen to reach the Kennedy Cup quarter-finals.
After a slender 1-0 loss to a strong Cork side in the quarters, the ADSL (managed by Tommy Hewitt) dropped into the Kennedy Plate for the four losing quarter-finalists. There Athlone recorded another notable win, beating Limerick County on penalties after a 1-1 draw on Thursday.
Athlone will now play Donegal on Friday at midday to decide who finishes in fifth and sixth place at the world renowned tournament. For further details on the ADSL’s fantastic run at this year’s Kennedy Cup, see next week’s Westmeath Independent.
