Athlone Lions Club has announced its annual Christmas Hampers drive. Applications in writing to Box No 6, Coosan Mail Centre, Coosan, Athlone. The deadline for applications is December 6. Athlone Town Council to erect a bus shelter at Arcadia Retail Centre. Cllr Paul Hogan raised the issue at the November meeting of the council. Town Clerk John Walsh told him the council had just received a proposal to provide a shelter and it was being examined with a view to having it erected. Photography Club The Midlands Photography Club will meet in the Prince of Wales Hotel, Athlone at 7.30pm this Wednesday evening, November 19. On the agenda - a talk on black and white photography by Angie Duignan, followed by judging of Autumn Club Competition. Cllr Moran said there were some gullies in troublesome areas that needed to be cleared after the leaves had fallen and mentioned in particular Northgate Street. Cllr John Butler supported Cllr Moran in his motion. Call for wheelchair friendly paths Cllr Kevin "Boxer" Moran has called for the footpaths leading to St Vincent"s Hospital and outside Garden Vale to be made wheelchair friendly at the November meeting of Athlone Town Council. Town Clerk John Walsh said these locations will be examined and costed and put forward for the councillors to consider as part of the 2009 Block Grant expenditure or Disability Act funding. Cllr Moran said something needed to be done immediately and asked the Town Engineer to do it without the Block Grant. Caring and Sharing Association (CASA) The association which has supported people with disabilities for the last 27 years is looking for your help. Due to bogus collectors collecting for charities over the last couple of years, charity shops have seen a drop of over 50% in their stock. CASA is one of these charities. The money collected from its shops provides a vital lifeline for our members and their families. The group is asking you to donate any unwanted clothes, gifts, books, cd"s videos, bric-a-brac.
