Westmeath gearing up for culture night 2014
Westmeath’s cultural communities and spaces are gearing up to open their doors, illustrate their artistic practices and welcome new audiences on Culture Night, which this year takes place on Friday, September 19.
The annual events is an important landmark in the cultural calendar and a number of gatherings, exhibitions and performances have been organised for it in Athlone, Moate and other parts of the Midlands.
Some of the events happening locally for Culture Night 2014 include an Open Door Viewing of Artifacts & Objects in the former Jailhouse in Moate; a Seisiún with members of Ballymore Comhaltas; a children's performance at the Tuar Ard Arts Centre in Moate; and a night of stories, music and dance in P. Egan’s Bar in Moate.
In Athlone, the 'Poetry in the Park' group will migrate to the Luan Gallery for a 'Poetry in the Gallery' event, while the same venue will host a drop-in art workshop and an exhibition by artists from the Abbey Road Artists’ Studios.
Poetry and music will fill the Dean Crowe Theatre Bar for culture night, while the Athlone Heritage Group will stage an evening of music, stories and Irish Dancing in the Little Museum of Memories on Lloyd's Lane.
