Sean Kelly to lead Mayo Pink Ribbon charity cycle on April 30
IRELAND’S best known cycling superstar Sean Kelly, together with An Taoiseach Enda Kenny, will lead the Mayo Pink Ribbon Charity Cycle on Saturday, April 30. Sean Kelly is delighted to be taking part in the event again this year
“To be able to enjoy riding your bike whilst also raising much needed funds for breast cancer Research is a win win for everybody. I look forward to meeting as many of you there as possible and hope that your training is going well as we now approach the final few weeks before the event,” said Sean.
Mayo Pink Ribbon have raised €571,488.47 over the past six years for breast cancer research. Almost all of that goes directly to breast cancer research as the organisers work very hard to keep administration costs to an absolute minimum.
“We’re absolutely delighted to have Sean Kelly join us again this year,” said Marita Staunton, one of the Mayo Pink Ribbon organisers,
“This really proves the significance of the event which has established itself as the best and friendliest charity cycle in the west over the last six years.”
Our sister paper, The Connaught Telegraph is the event’s media partner.
Three different distances mean the Pink Ribbon Cycle is suitable for just about everyone with a bike!
All three routes begin and end at An Sportlann, in Castlebar. The three distances are 51km, 108km and 147km.
The event is a leisure cycle, not a race, so there is no pressure on participants, just the pleasure of taking part and the sheer exhilaration of finishing.
Instead of an entry fee, participants are asked to raise a minimum of €100, which goes directly to funding breast cancer research in NUIG.
In return cyclists are guaranteed a most enjoyable day’s cycling, the best atmosphere and genuine encouragement from the public all the way around the three Routes.
Cyclists are very well taken care of with Water and refreshment stations along the route, a lunch stop, roadside back-up, medical back-up, marshalled event, complimentary rubdown for those in need at the end, showers, commemorative medal, tech T-shirt and hog toast BBQ after the event.
There will be a Q&A session with Sean Kelly on Friday evening, April 29, at 7 p.m. in An Sportlann, with event registration beforehand. There is no charge for this session.
Cyclists will find a wealth of information on the website www.mayopinkribbon.ie, including training plans as well as useful hints and tips. If you are ever to do a charity cycle this is the one to do!
