VIDEO: A nostalgic tour of St Aloysius College in Athlone
This is a landmark year for current and former students of St Aloysius College in Athlone.
The 2016-17 academic year is the secondary school's last. It is amalgamating with St Joseph's College in Summerhill and the newly amalgamated school, Colaiste Chiarain, will open in September at the Summerhill site.
Bealnamulla's Dylan Fuery, who has been attending St Aloysius for the last five years, is one of the students now moving to Colaiste Chiarain. He will sit his Leaving Cert there in 2018.
Dylan worked with other students at the school to create a video tour as a way of saying farewell to the campus.
'I decided to feature some of our students past and present as it is essential for our school community of all times to be represented,' he explained.
'I’ve enjoyed my time at St. Aloysius. It has been a great part of my life for the past five years. I’ve progressed so much and reached achievements beyond my wildest dreams.
'We have had our ups and downs, highs and lows, but it just worked. I am incredibly grateful for all that has been done for me here. Now we progress further. It’s the end of an era, one door has closed but another will open.'
