Athlone Senator to host meeting on 'women making a difference'
Government Minister Regina Doherty will be one of the speakers at a meeting in Athlone tomorrow (Thursday) evening on the topic of 'women making a difference'.
The event is being hosted by local Senator Gabrielle McFadden and is taking place in the Sheraton Hotel at 7.45pm.
The Senator said this was part of a programme of activities Fine Gael is holding around the country in order to celebrate the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in Ireland.
In addition to Minister Doherty, who heads the Department of Social Protection, there will be speeches from Joan Mulvihill, Centre Director IC4 (Irish Centre for Cloud Computing & Commerce) at Dublin City University, and Sarita Johnston, Manager of Female Entrepreneurship with Enterprise Ireland.
“A lot has changed for women since they got the vote 100 years ago and now is the time to mark that progress," said Senator McFadden.
"Women are making a huge contribution to Irish society and making a difference in so many spheres.
"And looking to the future there are challenges, but there are so many more opportunities. I am really looking forward to this event and would encourage anyone from the Midlands, be they male or female, with an interest in current affairs to attend."
