River Shannon search continues in Athlone

Searches are continuing today (Thursday) for a person who was reportedly seen entering the River Shannon in Athlone on Tuesday evening.

Two underwater searches took place yesterday (Wednesday) morning and afternoon by search and recovery divers from Athlone Sub-aqua Club, Longford Scuba Divers and Shannonside Snorkelers.

As of yet, there is nothing to report from the operation.

The alarm was raised regarding the emergency situation just after 8pm on Tuesday evening, when it was reported that someone had been seen entering the water near the Strand.

Searches will continue today and over the coming days.
