After 38 days search, body of missing person located

Athlone Sub Aqua Club recovered the body of a missing person after 38 days of continuous searching.

The club, in a statement, said members located the body "a considerable distance downstream" on Saturday morning.

They expressed their condolences to the family and thanked the people of Athlone for all the support and kind messages received over the last few weeks.  

At various times, the search was joined by Defence Forces personnel, the Garda Water Unit, Civil Defence, and other Sub Aqua clubs in the region.
