Athlone rental market hit by rocketing prices
Rental prices in Athlone have skyrocketed to over €1,500 a month, the latest property listings have revealed, laying bare the depth of the housing crisis in the town.
On Monday of this week (June 18), just 16 properties were listed to let in Athlone by the popular daft.ie website, eight of which breached €1,000 a month to rent, and in one case, a three bedroom apartment in the exclusive Jolly Mariner development was available for a whopping €1,700 a month.
Another property in the Wellmount Student Village, boasting four bedrooms along the Dublin Road, was offered to renters for €1,400 a month, while a two bed in the Silverquay development along the banks of the Shannon had a €1,250 a month pricetag.
In Summerhill, the daft.ie website had a listing for a four bed home for €1,200 a month. The same size property in Garnafailagh was €1,000 a month, with the equivalents in Coolevin Park and Barrymore €100 higher for would-be renters.
A three-bed bungalow in Bonavalley was also available at the €1,100 a month mark.
Meanwhile, a two-bed apartment in Bastion Court on Athlone's Connaught Street would set you back €900 a month, while a one bed apartment in the same development was €750 a month.
A sum of €825 a month would get you a one-bed residence in Griffith Street or a one bed property in the riverside development, Silverquay.
The lowest price on offer for a standalone property was €110 a week or €440 a month for what was described on the property website as a “large bedsit” on the Roscommon Road. Another student property was offered at €67 per week according to the listings, but this was on a shared basis.
