Moate couple's COVID-19 nightmare

This virus can happen to anyone, it’s not just a disease of the elderly” is the stark warning from a Moate mother, who along with her husband, endured a nightmare last week when they were both hospitalised with the Covid-19 coronavirus.

Anrijs Sedjukevics and Viktorija Sevcova, who live in the Sliabh Rua housing development in Moate and are parents to four young children, including an eight-month old baby boy, are both on lockdown in their home at the moment and are “still quite ill” according to Graham Ennis, who is engaged to Viktorija’s sister, Marika Sevcova.

Graham and Marika, who live in Ballymore with their four-year old son, are now self-isolating as they await a Covid-19 test, having spent the day with Anrijs and Viktorija on Saturday week last.

Marika Sevcova shared a Facebook post on Sunday evening last to highlight the suddenness with which the deadly coronavirus invaded the lives of her family.

She wrote: “A bit different Mother’s Day post. Posting this on behalf of my sister to raise the seriousness of COVID19. This is my sister. She turned 35 last Sunday. She's a mother to 4 beautiful children. Yesterday we nearly lost her to Coronavirus. Her partner was brought to hospital on Wednesday.

Both of them went through what can only be described as a nightmare. They both had very high temperature. Both couldn't breathe. He had very bad pain in his kidneys. Her body was paralysed. She had to be resuscitated. Both of them are home now because there's no treatment for this and older people will need beds. People still JOKE about it and don't follow social distancing guidelines but you won't be laughing when it affects your family.”
