Marist College teacher chosen for Irish rugby volunteer honour
Marist College have paid tribute to teacher Mick Loftus who has been selected as one of 100 volunteers nationally to receive a 'Services to Rugby' medal to mark the IRFU's 150th anniversary celebrations.
The 'Services to Rugby' medal celebrates and acknowledges those who have made a significant contribution to the development of the game in Ireland, the award to be presented at a pre-match reception ahead of the Energia All-Ireland League Finals Day at Aviva Stadium on April 27.
In a social media post, Marist College said it was "proud to share" the news that Mick Loftus had been selected to receive the 'Services to Rugby' medal.
"This award acknowledges Mick's longstanding involvement in the game and the positive impact he has had over the years at both club level and with Marist College in particular," the Marist College post stated.
The nomination process for the 'Services to Rugby' medal was an opportunity for clubs, schools and provinces to acknowledge the significant impact of members throughout the generations up to the modern day, influences that can still be witnessed in the rugby community across the island of Ireland.
The nominated candidates were then finalised by the respective provinces before their final submission to the IRFU.
