Midlands photographers urged to capture planet's beauty to mark Earth Day

To mark Earth Day on Tuesday, April 22, leading photo printing specialist CEWE (see-wee) is challenging photographers of all levels across the Midlands region to capture the beauty of our planet for the CEWE Photo Award, the world’s largest photography contest.

This year’s Earth Day comes as photographers around the world are submitting their most inspiring shots as part of the CEWE Photo Award competition. The theme for this year’s award – ‘Our world is beautiful’ – perfectly captures the spirit of Earth Day and its celebration of the natural beauty that surrounds us.

Earth Day encourages the public to take a step back from day-to-day life and appreciate the beauty of our planet and the incredible nature that surrounds us. The beauty of nature is of course a popular subject for the CEWE Photo Award, especially in the landscapes category – one of 10 category options to enter.

Steve Manfield, Marketing Director of CEWE Ireland, believes that Earth Day is the perfect inspiration for this year’s CEWE Photo Award.

“Earth Day is a powerful reminder that natural beauty surrounds us every day, especially here in Ireland,” Mr Manfield said. “No matter where you are in this country, you’re never far from stunning landscapes and vibrant nature so the CEWE Photo Award is the perfect opportunity to capture and celebrate that beauty.”

To mark Earth Day, CEWE is reflecting on some of the stunning Irish landscapes that have been entered in the competition in recent years. Photographers of all levels can enter the competition via the CEWE.ie website and entry is completely free.

The CEWE Photo Award is open to photographers from across the world, from smartphone photographers to professionals, with a total prize pool of €250,000 on offer. As the largest photography contest in the world, the award typically attracts over half a million entries each year, while with 10 diverse categories to choose from – including landscape, sport, and People– there’s something for everyone. This year’s competition is open until 31 May, meaning there’s still plenty of time to take part.
