Summer start for 2.5km Athlone watermains upgrade works
Uisce Éireann has announced plans to upgrade and upsize more than 2.5km of watermains at Coosan, Cornamagh Road and Brawny Road as part of its investment in Athlone's water network.
Site investigations works are already underway at the three locations, with the main construction phase of the project due to begin in early Summer for a period of approximately six months.
The latest Uisce Éireann project in Athlone is designed to improve the capacity and performance of the existing water network, and the utility company has said that construction work will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption to the local community. Coffey Construction is carrying out the works on Uisce Éireann’s behalf.
Donal O’Connor, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, said the planned upgrades in Athlone will ensure the water network is “fit for purpose to support sustainable growth and development” and will also also improve the resilience of the drinking water network. He also thanked the people of Athlone, in advance, for their “patience and support” as the company finalise the design of the latest round of works.
The upgrades are being delivered through Uisce Éireann’s Growth and Development Programme, which will increase the capacity of water and wastewater infrastructure to enable social and economic growth, including the delivery of additional housing.
