Sheehan to remain in charge of Swansea until end of season
Alan Sheehan is to continue as Swansea City head coach until the end of the 2024-25 season, the Welsh club has confirmed.
The Athlone native also had a temporary stint at the helm last season. He has a total of 18 points from 12 interim games in charge of the Swans.
With Sheehan leading the side on a caretaker basis following Luke Williams’ departure last month, Swansea have taken seven points from a possible 15, including impressive wins over Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough.
Having had a long and successful career in English football with several clubs, Sheehan was previously in the backroom team of former Southampton manager Nathan Jones when the Saints were in the English Premier League.
Sheehan will be joined by two new additions to his coaching team in Mark Fotheringham and Richard Stearman. They will work alongside Kris O'Leary and Martyn Margetson on the first team coaching staff and support Sheehan for the remainder of the campaign. Anthony Wright will return to focusing on his role with the club’s under-21s.
Swansea City director of football Richard Montague said: “We're delighted Alan has agreed to lead the team for the rest of the season, and would like to extend a big welcome to Mark and Richard as they join our coaching staff in support of Alan. Both will aid us in our efforts to finish the season as strongly as possible, which is the full focus of everyone at the club at this moment.”
Swansea City return to Championship action following the international break with a trip to Elland Road to take on table toppers Leeds United this Saturday (3pm).
The Swans, who are currently 16th of the 24 teams in the Championship, will then face back to back home games against Derby County and Plymouth Argyle.
