Wexford-based local radio station, South East Radio, is to be acquired by Midlands 103.

Midlands 103 announces expansion plans

Midlands 103 is set to expand its broadcasting empire with confirmation this week that the local station has agreed to acquire South East Radio, which has been the voice of Wexford for over 35 years.

The proposed deal, which is subject to standard closing conditions and regulatory approval, has been described by Midlands 103 Managing Director, Will Faulkner, as reflecting the station's confidence in “the future of audio, particularly locally sourced, quality content.”

Mr. Faulkner praised the “local ethos” that has made South East Radio “a trusted voice in Wexford” for over 35 years, and added that the combined expertise of both teams will create an “even stronger offering” for listeners and commercial partners alike. However, he stressed that both Midlands 103 and South East Radio will “retain their unique identities.”

Midlands 103 is part of the Tindle Group, which operates local media outlets in the UK, Isle of Man and Channel Islands. Under local management, the station has a weekly audience of 106,000 listeners across Laois, Offaly and Westmeath.

South East Radio's Managing Director, Eamonn Buttle, has described the announcement of Midlands 103's acquisition of the company as “an exciting new chapter” and added that the station would be “in safe hands” under the stewardship of Midlands 103 as both companies “share the same belief in supporting and promoting local issues.”
