Local students from Athlone Community College have taken a stand against illegal dumping with their new short film titled 'The Choice: a film about illegal dumping'.

The video, which was uploaded to YouTube on Friday, February 28, was directed by TY student James Duffy, and features his classmates Eoin Dillon, Maeve Murphy, Alexander Socolovsky, and Henry Proctor, among others.

Running for a total length of 10 minutes and 20 seconds, the film packs a punch as it features headlines about illegal dumping instances in the Midlands town, as well as commentary from Cllr Aengus O'Rourke and sustainability teach Rebecca Dobson.

The film features five different chapters titled The Bystander, The Effort, The Offender, The Change, and The Choice.

Humourous in parts while still tackling the serious issue of illegal dumping, the Athlone Community College students made use of a series cinematic shots to convey their story.

The film closes with a poignant message as students note: "We all have the choice to take responsibility for our waste".
