Athlone Lock closes temporarily for upgrade works

Waterways Ireland has advised boat users that Athlone Lock is temporarily closed this week in order to facilitate upgrade works which are currently taking place.

In a notice issued to "masters and owners of vessels", the waterways body said the closure took effect on Monday of this week.

It said the Lock will reopen this Saturday, March 1, at 9am.

Waterways Ireland apologised for any inconvenience caused.
