Athlone’s Sheehan steps into Swansea City breach once again

Athlone native Alan Sheehan has returned to first team head coach duties at Swansea City.

With only one win from their previous six league games, the Welsh club has taken the decision to part company with Luke Williams, with Sheehan appointed to the head coach role on an interim basis.

A statement issued by the club, who currently are placed 17th in the EFL Championship, confirmed Sheehan’s appointment, the process to appoint a new head coach having commenced.

Sheehan previously held the head coach role at Swansea City for seven games prior to Williams’ appointment in January 2024.

During this time Sheehan guided Swansea to three league wins and will be hoping that his return to the role will see an upturn in form for his charges as they strive to avoid a relegation battle.

Having played over 300 games in English league football, Sheehan started his coaching career with Luton Town in January 2022, before departing for Southampton where he gained Premier League coaching experience as part of former Southampton manager Nathan Jones’ backroom team.
