Local company confirms redundancy plan

A Clara company has confirmed it is seeking to reduce staff numbers.

Nelipak Healthcare Packaging, on the Kilbeggan Road, in Clara, told this paper that is pursuing an operational restructuring programme.

"In order to align resources at the Nelipak Clara site with current production requirements, we have made the difficult decision to pursue an operational restructuring program which will result in production staff reductions," the company said, in a statement this lunchtime.

It said: "The restructuring program is in response to current expectations for 2025 customer demand at the Clara site including the ongoing impact of inventory and demand normalization throughout the global healthcare supply chain."

Nelipak stressed its commitment to the future of the Clara site, saying that it remains among the largest of its eleven global production sites with a broad range of capabilities and customers.

"Nelipak Clara site capabilities include production of sterile-barrier packaging as well as packaging and laboratory services for the global medical device and pharma drug delivery markets. Nelipak is committed to ensuring that the Clara site is well positioned for continued growth, investment and success in the coming years."

The statement comes in the wake of reports locally that up to 40 voluntary redundancies are being sought.

In a statement today, MEP Barry Cowen voiced ‘serious concern’ regarding the news of 40 voluntary redundancies.

Martin Mannion, SIPTU Organiser, said staff at the Clara facility were informed late last week of the voluntary redundancy scheme, and given a short period of time to respond, with applications sought by the end of this week.

He said staff were informed that the level of interest in the scheme would dictate the company's approach.

It's understood there are over 100 employees and SIPTU, while having a significant number of members within the staff, is not officially recognised by the company
