Bulfin to face old boss as Westmeath hurlers travel north
The Westmeath senior hurlers had last Saturday’s game against Laois cancelled due to a frozen pitch at TEG Cusack Park and they will now play their opening game next Sunday when they travel to Belfast to face Antrim.
Sunday’s Allianz Hurling League Division 1B game at Corrigan Park has a 2pm throw-in time and new Westmeath manager Seoirse Bulfin will be keen to get his troops going after Saturday’s false start.
Westmeath beat Antrim in last year’s league and they will realise that there is very little margin for error in Division 1B.
In an interesting backdrop, Bulfin’s former boss Davy Fitzgerald is in charge of the Saffrons, who lost to Dublin, 1-25 to 0-14, in Croke Park last weekend and will be anxious to get a home victory under their belt.
Bulfin was part of Fitzgerald's management team when the fomer Clare goalkeeper was in charge of his home county and of Wexford.
Meanwhile, the postponed Westmeath vs Laois match has been rearranged for Sunday, February 16 at TEG Cusack Park (throw-in 2.30).
