Local primary schools invited to enter credit union quiz ahead of Athlone event
Athlone & Castlerea Credit Union is inviting primary schools in the Athlone and Castlerea areas to join the Credit Union Schools Quiz 2025.
The local knockout stage of the competition will take place Sunday, February 9, at TUS Athlone campus.
The schools quiz, which attracts more than 25,000 participating students each year, is the largest competition of its type in Ireland.
Run over three stages between the months of February to April, the competition culminates in a national final in the RDS Dublin on Sunday, April 6

"Questions will cover a wide range of topics including geography, history, music, literature and sport and we have no doubt that school children in the Athlone and Castlerea areas will rise to the challenge."
Registration for the 2025 Schools Quiz is now open and local schools and children interested in participating can contact Athlone & Castlerea Credit Union for entry forms and for further information.
But schools that haven't already entered will have to act fast, as the closing date for entries is this coming Monday, January 20.
The quiz is divided into two sections: Competition A: Under 11-for entrants ages 10 or younger on December 31, 2024. Competition B: Under 13- for entrants aged 12 of younger on December 31, 2024.
The winning teams at the national finals will receive €1,250 per school, with the runner up teams in each category receiving €750 for their schools, adding up to a fantastic prize fund of €4,000.
Local winning teams will receive a certificate and trophy from Athlone & Castlerea Credit Union.
Regional winners will receive prizes, and their schools will receive a cheque or a cash prize.
The national winners and runners-up will receive a trophy, significant personal prizes for each team, and their schools are each awarded a substantial cheque.
