New coffee shop opens in landmark Athlone building

A Midlands coffee shop chain recently opened its first branch in Athlone at a landmark building on the corner of Northgate Street.

Chocolate Brown opened its doors at 1 Northgate Street, a building that was previously home to the Dillon Shoes and, more recently, Swan Lake Bridal Couture.

Chocolate Brown, which also has outlets in Tullamore and Mullingar, said in a social media post this week that it had been given "such a warm welcome to the town of Athlone" and that it "could not be happier" as a result.

Its opening in the "beautiful" Northgate Street building was announced just before Christmas.

Another coffee shop, Garrison Coffee Co, opened last August in the Church Street, Athlone, premises that was formerly home to VDA coffee.

Meanwhile the nearby FINE coffee shop, on Church Street, announced this week that it will be closing towards the end of February.
