Legion of Mary to start First Saturday devotions in Athlone

The Legion of Mary has announced that it is working with St Mary's Church Athlone to start First Saturday Devotions to Our Lady from January 4.

The devotions will start with the 9:30 mass in St Mary's on Saturday morning, followed immediately by confessions, with the Rosary, meditations, devotional prayers and hymn, after the mass, as confessions are going on. The program will last for an hour after the mass.

The Legion of Mary is calling for locals to get involved in the monthly devotions by helping with the organising, or through leading the prayers, readings or meditations.

“We want this devotion to be as fun and family friendly as possible, while preserving the essence of this devotion.

" We want children to read and sing; families, the youth and the elderly to participate in reading and forming meditations, and we want everyone to feel welcomed and at home in the presence of Our Lord and Our Lady in this devotion.”

The First Saturday devotions tradition is over 80 years old, and is carried out in countries worldwide.
