Local author launches collection of short stories

Author Xandra Kilduff launched her book, 'A Treasury of Short Stories' in Moore Community Hall, Ballydangan, Athlone, on Saturday, October 19, to an appreciative audience.

A native of Ballinasloe, Xandra has a long career as a playwrite, poet, historian and short story writer.

This led her to gather many of her stories into this 200-page book of over 30 stories and donate the first edition to the East Galway and Midlands Cancer Support in Brackernagh, Ballinasloe to continue their valuable work in the community. A cancer survivor herself, Xandra knows the value of the unit in Brackernagh.

Aine Kenny, Maria Reynolds and Hugh Collins who provided the music for Xandra Kilduff's book launch.

Following the presentation of the book to East Galway and Midlands Cancer Support Director Jacqueline Daly, the audience was treated to a selection of readings both moving and humorous by Maria Reynolds, Maureen Duffy, Hugh Collins, and Tom Costello. The readers were accompanied by on violin and guitar by Aine Kenny, Maria Reynolds, and Hugh Collins.

The cover of the book was designed by Sarah Kilduff of SMK Studios. It was printed through the kindness of businesses, organisations and patrons, and is widely available, including in Ballinasloe, Moore and Shannonbridge.

As many of the stories are based around Christmas, this makes it an ideal seasonal gift.
