Shaws opens 16th store nationwide in Athlone's Golden Island

Shaws Department Store have officially opened their 16th store nationwide in Athlone's Golden Island shopping centre.

The store opened on Thursday, October 10, on the 160th anniversary of the opening of the first ever Shaws store.

In attendance at the opening ceremony were Shaws CEO Conrad Digan, Cllr Frankie Keena Mayor of Athlone-Moate Municipal District and Shaws Athlone Store Manager Samantha Hoare.

Representatives from Special Olympics Ireland and St Hilda's special school in Athlone were also there to celebrate the momentus occasion.

Mr Digan, Cllr Keena, and Ms Hoare cut the ribbon at 10.30am to mark the official opening of the store.

Speaking on the day Cllr Keena said: "Golden Island Shopping Centre enjoys an average 65,000 weekly footfall of customers visiting the shopping mall and credit to this is down to its manager Pat O’Toole and the wide range of fabulous retail outlets on offer.

"Athlone is the major retail town in the midlands attracting customers from up to a 50km radius. The addition of Shaws Department Store to Athlone’s shopping experience will further attract more shoppers to the town which in turn will help other retail outlets throughout the town.

"I would like to thank Shaws for choosing Athlone and I wish them every success."
