Golf 'going from strength to strength' at Moate Community School
Moate Community School golf is going from strength to strength since the School Scramble last May which introduced students to the sport.
Lessons were organised at Moate golf club every Friday evening throughout the summer and, as students progressed and became more confident, they played out on the course which was reserved every Monday and Friday morning for juniors.
The junior committee consisting of Mick McLoughlin (Junior Convener Moate GC) Trevor Hill, Paddy Mullaly, Maura Igoe and Helen Kelly ensured the smooth running of all junior competitions, and were assisted by Kevin Grealy (Golf Pro).
Over thirty students acquired their Golf Handicaps over the summer and many wish to compete in the Leinster Post Primary Schools Golf.
A qualifying 13-hole competition was organised on Tuesday, September 10, in Moate Golf club by Maura Igoe (Moate CS) and Mick McLoughlin (Moate GC).
The qualifing students will now represent the school, and we wish them the best of luck.
The school continues to encourage all the other junior members to continue their lessons and enjoy their golf.
Moate CS is very grateful for all the assistance provided by Moate Golf Club, its members and especially Anna O'Brien in the office.
