Local man to showcase sketches of Moate's streetscape in the 1940's
Moate native Kieran Gavin will unveil a collection of over 40 sketches capturing the essence of Moate's streetscape in the 1940's later this week.
The original sketches from Mr Gavin's book 'Childhood Memories of Moate in the mid 1940’s' will be exhibited in The Old Schoolhouse on Station Road in Moate this Thursday, June 27 at 8pm.
With the help of Moate Men’s Shed, St Mary’s Church framed and hung these sketches for permanent display in The Old Schoolhouse.
St Mary’s Church said: "They are displayed so you can walk up and down the street of Moate. It’s a wonderful testimony to the past and we are very grateful to be entrusted with them."
Mr Gavin wrote the book in 2008 which was a loving recollection of the town of the time, the characters, the wit and how people made their living in those difficult times.
