RTÉ lyric fm live broadcast from Uisneach for Summer Solstice

RTÉ Lyric FM’s solstice series ‘Ambient Orbit’ is coming to Westmeath for the Summer Solstice this Friday, 21 June.

Broadcasting live from the sacred centre of Ireland, at the Hill of Uisneach, Lyric FM will present a mix of live environmental field recordings mixed with ambient music from 5am to 7am.

Ambient Orbit is a series based on ambient music and field recordings primarily focused on presenting new music from contemporary Irish composers and musicians, along with field recordings from around the Irish rural landscape.

The series is committed to showcasing new Irish music within an internationally accessible framework. Using live music and field recordings in collaboration with sound designers, ornithologists and emerging new Irish musicians, the programmes allow the listener to reset and escape the noise of everyday life.

For the Winter Solstice 2023, Ambient Orbit broadcast from the Céide Fields, County Mayo, and for the Summer Solstice 2023, it broadcast from Lough Gur, County Limerick.

For this year’s Summer Solstice in Westmeath, there will be live performances from vocalist and fiddle player Róis and flute player Neil Ó Lochlainn to bring the atmosphere of solstice celebrations, folklore and history to listeners from sunrise on the longest day of the year.

Tune into RTÉ Lyric FM this Friday June 21, 5am-7am
