Cumann na mBunscol victory for Drumraney NS
Victory was coloured yellow and blue recently as Drumraney National School became the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol champions. Following a nail-biting showdown at Cusack Park, the team dug deep in the final half, securing the win and bringing the cup home to Drumraney for the first time in 17 years.
Drumraney National School, a two-teacher school with only 26 students, fielded a team of senior room students, ranging from 3rd to 6th class, throughout the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol competition and in an incredible display of skill and determination, made their way through their entire tournament with an unbeaten record.
Supported by their coaches, their teachers and parents, family and fellow students and 3 of the 2007 winning team, Peter Cunningham, Kenny Egan and Alan Nugent on the final day, the scoreboard clocked up goals and points by Danny Convey, Shane Convey and man of the match Elliot Downes.
Congratulations to the small school with the big heart; an incredible show of sportsmanship, teamwork and determination.
