Young boy killed after being struck by car in Westmeath

A young boy has been killed after being struck by a car in a Mullingar housing estate yesterday evening (Monday).

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the fatal traffic collision which occurred on April 21.

Shortly after 6:30pm, Gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision in Farranshock Estate, Mullingar, after a young boy (age not released) was struck by a car.

He was treated at the scene before being taken by ambulance to Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar, where he was pronounced deceased. The Coroner has been notified, and a post-mortem examination will be arranged.

The scene is currently preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward. Road users or pedestrians who were in the area at the time and have camera footage (including dash-cam recordings) are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.

This evening's tragedy was the second fatal incident on the country's roads as the Easter Bank Holiday weekend came to an end with a number of other accidents reported.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision that occurred in Ardagh, Co. Limerick.

Shortly after 6:00pm, Gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision involving a car and a motorcycle at the intersection of R521 and R523 in Ardagh village.

The motorcyclist, a male aged in his 20s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body has since been removed to University Hospital Limerick where post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

The male driver of the car was transferred to University Hospital Kerry for treatment of non-life-threatening injury.

In Sligo, a two-car collision in Ballisodare saw four people serious injured.

Shortly before 2:30pm, Gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision on the N59 at Ballisodare. The occupants of one vehicle—two adult females, aged in their 40s and 20s, along with a 9-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl— were transported by ambulance to Sligo University Hospital with serious injuries. The sole occupant of the second vehicle, a woman in her 50s, was taken to the hospital for assessment.

Meanwhile, Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision in Ballyhale, Co. Kilkenny yesterday, on Sunday.

At approximately 12:40pm, Gardaí and emergency services were alerted following a collision between a car and a motorcycle on the R448 at Knockwilliam.

The motorcyclist, a male aged in his 30s, was taken to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

On Sunday, an 18-year-old man died in a crash involving a scrambler bike and a car in southwest Dublin.

Jason Monks was taken to Tallaght University Hospital following the crash, which happened at around 8pm on Sunday night on Citywest Avenue in Citywest, Co Dublin. However he was later pronounced dead.

In a post on social media, his mother Donna Monks said that her "heart is shattered into a million bits" following the death of her son.
