Athlone fun run/walk for Irish Heart Foundation this Sunday

Carrie Minagh and Cllr John Dolan have organised a fun run or walk in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation, which will take place this Sunday, April 27, at the Athlone Regional Sports Centre at 11am.

"Carrie approached me late last year to see if we could organise an event to create awareness about strokes and Cardiac awareness and I immediately said that we should," said Cllr Dolan.

"As a stroke survivor, Carrie has always endeavored to create awareness about spotting signs of a stroke and what to do. In my case, I was very fortunate also to survive a cardiac arrest and I have also tried to create awareness about how to perform CPR and maybe save a life.

"We have organised this event and we hope as many as possible can attend on the day and either walk or run the 2.5k, 5k, or 10k and maybe make a donation to the Irish Heart Foundation on the day," Cllr Dolan added.

"We were lucky enough to have MEP Nina Carberry to launch the event recently, and she was delighted to oblige," he concluded.
