Gaelic games

Leinster hurling

There were wins for Kilkenny and Wexford to kick off the Leinster Hurling Championship this afternoon.

The Cats strolled to a 3-24 to 21 point win over Galway at Nowlan Park earlier with Adrian Mullen, Mossy Keoghan and Eoin Cody hitting the back of the net.

Wexford went down to 14 men but held on to beat Antrim by 2-24 to 19 points.

Dublin are getting their campaign up and running with Offaly the visitors to Parnell Park this evening.

Football

The Munster football championship has reached the semi-final stage today.

Clare are the first team into the decider as they beat Tipperary by 2-18 to 1-15 in Ennis this afternoon.

Old rivals Kerry and Cork will battle it out to join the Banner in the final.

They meet at Supervalu Páirc Uí Chaoimh from 7pm.

Mayo are looking to reach the Connacht final with Leitrim standing in their way in the semi finals.

With that game into the second half, it's Mayo 0-16 Leitrim 0-10 so far.

Down scored two late goals to win their Ulster quarter final with Fermanagh by 2-19 to 0-23.

Women's football

The Dublin ladies have gotten the better of foes Meath in Round 1 of the Leinster football championship.

A goal in either half helped the Girls in Blue to a 2-10 to 1-6 victory at Páirc Tailteann.

Soccer

League of Ireland

The Women's Premier Division is well underway this evening.

Two games are just into the second half with Peamount United and DLR Waves locked at 2-2 while Wexford and Shamrock Rovers are also level at 1-1.

Earlier, Galway United beat fellow Connacht side Sligo Rovers 3-1 while Shelbourne smashed Cork City 7-0.

Later, defending champions Athlone Town take on Treaty United from half past 7.

Meanwhile, Waterford have confirmed that men's first-team manager Keith Long has left the club with immediate effect.

Last night's 4-0 defeat at home to Sligo Rovers leaves the Blues on a six-game losing run and eighth in the SSE Airtricity Men's Premier Division.

Long joined the club in 2023, and guided them to promotion from the First Division in his first season.

In a statement, Waterford thanked Long for his efforts, but said "the recent run of results meant it was necessary for a change."

Premier League

Manchester City got a couple of late goals to beat Everton 2-nil and go fourth in the Premier League.

They're a point behind Newcastle - who are in action against Aston Villa this evening.

With 20 minutes gone at Villa Park, it's the hosts who lead 1-0 with Ollie Watkins scoring inside 36 seconds.

Brentford's 4-2 victory over Brighton has kept alive their outside hopes of qualifying for Europe.

Crystal Palace held on with 10-men to draw nil-nil with Bournemouth, while bottom side Southampton scored a late equaliser as their game against West Ham finished 1-all.

That result means Southampton have now equalled Derby's record low points total and it gives Leicester City another chance to avoid the drop against Liverpool tomorrow.

Rugby

Leinster and Ulster contest a URC interpro derby at the Aviva Stadium this evening.

Luke McGrath will captain the hosts, while head Leo Cullen call upon the likes of Andrew Porter, Dan Sheehan and RG Snyman from the bench.

Cormac Izuchukwu returns from injury to start alongside skipper Alan O'Connor in the second row.

Kick-off is at 7.35pm.

Connacht battled hard but were beaten 34-29 by the Stormers in Cape Town earlier.

The visitors thought they had drawn the game but a late Santiago Cordero try was cancelled after a TMO check for obstruction in the buildup.

At the minute, Munster trail the Bulls 10-3 in Thomand Park with Jack Crowley kicking a penalty for the home side.

Snooker

The World Snooker Championship is underway at the Crucible in Sheffield today.

Former champion Neil Robertson trails Chris Wakelin by 6 frames to 1 in their clash.

Meanwhile three time winner Mark Williams is level 4-4 with China's Yize Wu.

The first to 10 frames will progress.
