Athlone public asked to join Good Friday Clean-Up
Athlone Tidy Towns is inviting householders, families and businesses to join its annual Good Friday Litter Pick and Clean-Up this week.
The level of public participation in previous years for this major event has been excellent, and the organisers are hoping for a similar response this Friday.
The Tidy Towns organisation said it is also seeking the cooperation of smaller groups i.e. residents’ associations, businesses, householders, families for this year's clean-up.
People are being asked to devote an hour or two to look after their immediate vicinity and pick the litter and/or tidy up an unsightly spot in their estate, business location or nearby roadway or laneway.
The Tidy Towns said this would greatly assist the many volunteers, who work every week to keep Athlone neat and litter free.
Participants are asked, if possible and weather permitting, to carry out the task in the morning time. Green bags and pickers will be placed at drop off locations listed below.
Further information can be had from Padraig Higgins at 087 2185160 or to any member of the Tidy Towns Committee.
When finished your task, you can drop off the collected litter at the following locations before lunch time on that same day: Bus Stop near Valleycourt; Grace Park Road (Opposite St Hilda's); Carpark at Cornamaddy School; Outside the Athlone Training Centre at the Garrycastle sign; One Mile (Opposite entrance to Sli an Aifrinn); Top of Talbot Avenue; Entrance to Connaught Gardens (Opposite Walsh's); Entrance at Annesfield; Opposite Shine's Pub, Baylough.
Committee members will then arrange to have these green bags picked up for their final disposal.
Athlone was awarded a national gold medal in the Tidy Towns competition for the fourth successive year in 2024.
