"Rory deserves every bit of this": Lowry pays tribute to his friend after Masters triumph
Shane Lowry has expressed his disappointment at the way his Masters campaign ended at the weekend, but has shared his delight at watching the triumph of his friend, Rory McIlroy.
McIlroy completed his career grand slam by winning the Masters in a playoff against Justin Rose, following a memorable and hugely dramatic final round on Sunday.
Lowry - by contrast - had a day to forget on his last round in Augusta, finishing four over for the tournament and coming in joint 42nd place despite being among the leading pack the previous day.
In a social media post today (Tuesday), the 38-year-old Clara native shared a photo of himself hugging McIlroy (35) and wrote: "The Masters is one of the greatest weeks in golf.
"I was so disappointed with my performance (on) Sunday but I gave it everything and that's all I can ask for.
"I've never been happier to watch someone else achieve something that I want so badly myself.
"Rory deserves every bit of this and I was so happy to be there to watch him make history," he concluded.
Lowry will be in action again this week at the RBC Heritage, a PGA Tour event held at Harbour Town Golf Links in South Carolina.
