Redundancies confirmed at Athlone company

A number of redundancies have been made at an Athlone firm.

It's understood some 13 employees have lost their jobs at BOC Homecare in Athlone.

The company confirmed there had been redundancies at its Blyry Industrial and Commercial Park base.

In a statement it said: “Due to the HSE's decision not to renew its contract with BOC, roles at the Athlone site were made redundant. Alternative employment within BOC was offered where possible but ultimately, where alternatives were not available, redundancies were made.”

The company declined to comment further.

It's understood the homecare oxygen division of the company in Ireland was located in Athlone. The core element of the business involved the delivery of medical oxygen to patients in their own homes.
