The Claret Jug comes to Athlone Golf Club tomorrow
Athlone Golf Club has been selected as one of 20 clubs in Ireland that will have the pleasure of displaying the Claret Jug (the most famous trophy awarded in Golf to the winner of the Open Championship) for members and the local public to see and have their photo taken with tomorrow evening (Wednesday, April 2) from 6:30pm to 8pm.
The iconic trophy will arrive in Athlone before making its onward journey across the other Golf Clubs across the country in advance of this year's Open at Royal Portrush where the winner when it was last held there in 2019 was none other than Shane Lowry.
Athlone Golf Club is using this exciting event to promote the club within the local area by inviting the public and golf club members (both young and old) to see the famous trophy.
They will also be promoting their exciting calendar of events for the year ahead including Get into Golf, Charity Fundraisers, Junior Programs, Inter-club events and their very own Major competitions. They also hope to have some fun events on the night.
The renowned club has said that perhaps they can look back in years to come on the night The Claret Jug came to Athlone as being "where it all started for one of our Juniors."
Athlone Golf Club will also have the pleasure of having the President of Golf Ireland in attendance on the night, who this year is their very own member Michael Evans.
Michael has just this week stepped into his new role, having been formally appointed at the Golf Ireland AGM.
