Athlone Boxing Club to send team of 11 boys and girls to Leinster championships

Athlone Boxing Club is preparing to enter a team of 11 boxers into the Leinster boy and girl championships at the youngest '1, 2 and 3' age categories.

The club said this was the biggest squad it has entered for these championships, with eight boys and three girls weighing in this coming Saturday (April 5) in Athy.

The team consists of: Bradley Ward (Boy 1, 40kg), Leah Casey (Girl 1, 75kg), Alice Joyce (Girl 1, 75+ kg), Fia Murtagh (Girl 2, 55kg), Davie Joyce (Boy 2, 43kg), Martin Nevin (Boy 2, 44.5kg), Tommy Joyce (Boy 2, 46kg), Sean Stokes (Boy 2, 54kg), JP Joyce (Boy 2, 62kg), Joe Ward (Boy 3, 48kg) and Willie Stokes (Boy 3, 50kg).

The club trains in the basement of the Church of Saints Peter and Paul.

It's currently working towards the development of its own purpose-built training premises close to the Athlone Regional Sports Centre.

To assist with that aim, a GoFundMe page has been launched to help meet the costs of developing the new facility. The fundraising page can be found here.
