An interim pumping system will be switched on at Lough Funshinagh today aimed at alleviating the persistent South Roscommon flooding crisis

Lough Funshinagh flood relief measure to become operational today

OPW Minister Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran will switch on the interim pumping system at Lough Funshinagh later day.

In January, An Bord Pleanála granted approval for a temporary flooding solution that will see pipes being used to pump excess water from Lough Funshinagh to the Cross River, in the townland of Carrick in South Roscommon.

This interim solution to the persistent South Roscommon flooding crisis, to become operational from today, will remain in place for a two year period with work underway to plan a more permanent solution from 2027 onwards.
