Broadband outage at Athlone estate now in its eighth day

Residents of the Arcadin housing development in Athlone are now eight days without a fibre broadband service.

It's understood that 36 homes in total are affected by the broadband outage in the Arcadia-area estate which began on March 18, with no resolution to the issue imminent.

An email issued to the Westmeath Independent this morning (Wednesday) confirmed that the affected residents remain in touch with their respective broadband providers with no confirmation of a resolution date.

Speaking on behalf of himself and other Arcadin residents, Amarta Das outlined the frustration being experienced by those affected.

“The affected residents have been calling their respective broadband providers and are yet to receive clarity as to when the service will resume with restoration dates ranging from seven to ten days.

“We have been in contact with Minister of State, Deputy Peter Burke, with regards to the issue, so are continuing to explore all avenues to ensure the broadband service is restored as soon as possible to all those residents impacted.

When initially contacted by the Westmeath Independent last week, Mr Das stated that the issue had been reported to the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications (DECC) and the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg).

"Despite our persistence we appear to be making little progress. There appears to be no accountability," Mr Das added.
