Athlone Boxing Club celebrates national title success

Joe Joyce of Athlone Boxing Club became a national champion for the fifth time in Dublin last weekend.

In the Junior 2 91kg (heavyweight) category at the championships in the National Stadium, Joyce took on Darren Daly of St Anne's Boxing Club in Westport.

And the local teenager was victorious in emphatic fashion, with the referee stopping the contest in round one.

The club extended its congratulations to Joe Joyce afterwards, praising his "great performance" on the national stage.

A total of 75 bouts took place over 10 hours of boxing at the National Stadium last Saturday, as the 2025 National Junior 1 and Junior 2 Championships were decided.
