Two men injured as shots are fired in Tullamore after violent disorder incident

Gardai are appealing for witnesses after two men were seriously injured when a firearm was discharged at a residence in Kilcruttin, Tullamore, last night (Friday).

The incident occurred shortly after officers had responded to a disturbance at the Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore.

A Garda statement this morning (Saturday) said the two men who were injured were aged in their 30s and 40s, and that their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

"Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following incidents of violent disorder and the discharge of a firearm in Tullamore, Co Offaly, last night, Friday, March 21," the statement from the Garda press office said.

"At approximately 9:50pm, Gardaí were alerted to a public disturbance at Midlands Regional Hospital. A short time later, Gardaí with assistance from the Divisional Armed Support Unit responded to a report of shots fired at a residence in Kilcruttin.

"Two men, aged in their 30s and 40s, were conveyed from the scene and have since been transferred to St. James’s Hospital, Dublin for treatment of serious injuries, not believed to be life-threatening at this time. No other injuries were reported.

"The scene is currently preserved for examination by the Divisional Scenes of Crime Unit.

"No arrests have been made at this time.

"Investigating Gardaí are appealing to any person who may have information in relation to these incidents to contact them."

Any road users who were in the Midlands Regional Hospital and Kilcruttin areas of Tullamore between 9:30pm and 10:30pm and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam footage) are being asked to make it available to Gardaí.
