Residents of the Arcadin estate in Arcadia, Athlone, have been without broadband for the last three days

Ongoing broadband outage affecting residents of Athlone estate

Residents of the Arcadin housing development in Athlone are being impacted by an ongoing broadband outage which began three days ago.

It's understood that 36 homes in total are affected by the broadband outage in the Arcadia-area estate. The outage began on Tuesday last, March 18, and at the tome of writing no resolution was imminent.

Speaking to the Westmeath Independent on behalf of himself and other Arcadin residents, Amarta Das outlined the frustration being experienced by those affected.

"The issue occurred on Tuesday, and as of now there is no clear answers as to when our broadband will be restored," he said.

"The fault has been reported to the various broadband providers but no updates as to a possible resolution time have been received.

"I have also reported the issue to the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications (DECC) and the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg), but as of yet have received no response," Mr Das said.

He said the broadband outage was particularly impacting the estate's residents who work from home.

Mr Das said the residents were continuously calling their broadband suppliers but were not receiving any definitive updates on when the issue would be resolved - with some suggesting it could last for 10 days or more.

"Despite our persistence we appear to be making little progress. There is no accountability," Mr Das added.

Mr Das is now calling on local public representatives to get involved in order to help resolve the issue.

"Broadband is now an integral function of each house. Without it, many are unable to activate security alarms, monitors, smart televisions, so it is vital that the issue is resolved promptly," Mr Das concluded.
