Roscommon council delegation attends St Patrick's Day events in New York
A Roscommon County Council delegation has been taking part in meetings at the New York City offices of Enterprise Ireland, Tourism Ireland and IDA Ireland as part of a visit to mark St Patrick's Day.
The council delegation comprised of Cathaoirleach Cllr Paschal Fitzmaurice, Chief Executive Shane Tiernan, and Director of Finance Sean Mullarkey.
A statement issued on behalf of Roscommon County Council said that at the meetings attended by the local group there was excellent collaboration and engagement regarding the connection of US markets for emerging and growing Roscommon companies.
Roscommon's tourism proposition, and foreign direct investment (FDI) in the county were also discussed during the visit.
The council added that Strokestown Park House and Famine Museum was due to be featured on American television network NBC as part of the coverage of the New York Fifth Avenue parade, which is expected to attract millions of viewers.
The visiting delegation is to march in the city's parade with local diaspora and members of the County Roscommon Society of New York Society.
The delegation also undertook a series of official engagements and were guests at the County Roscommon Society of New York annual Roscommon dinner in Yorkers, New York.
While there, the visiting delegation made a presentation to Union County Prosecutor Jim Tansey, whose ancestors hail from Ballinlough and who is President of the County Roscommon Society of New York.
Also while in the ‘Big Apple’, the travelling party met John Kenny from Castleplunkett, who is a well-known publican in Queens and Treasurer of the Roscommon Society of New York.
