The park hopes to upgrade their water feature with a new pump mechanism.

Upgrades for Dún na Sí sensory garden

Dún na Sí Amenity and Heritage Park in Moate has planned to make upgrades to the park’s sensory garden.

The garden features a beautiful tiled water feature, which has fallen into disrepair.

Upgrade works in the sensory garden aim to fix the broken water pump mechanism in the water feature.

"Our sense of sound is not stimulated by the water feature at present as the water pump mechanics need professional attention in order for the sound of water flowing to be effective. It is our aim to see this water feature up and running in the near future," said a spokesperson for the park.

"The sensory garden has been developed to stimulate our five senses. The garden is a refuge for everyone to enjoy, particularly for those with impaired senses. The water feature wall consists of a double wall of over 300 tiles, all reflecting the senses or various aspects of the park. The far side of the wall contains tiles in brail representing the letters for ‘our five senses’.

"Our sensory garden is especially helpful for those with disabilities, such as autism. Children and adults with autism are regular visitors to our garden. Everyone can enjoy the unique delights of our sensory garden. It is particularly beneficial to adults with dementia, blindness, anxiety or depression. The garden is a serene form of cognitive therapy that only nature and natural features can offer."
