Horse part-owned by Drumraney man wins at Cheltenham
There were celebrations in South Westmeath this afternoon, when a horse part-owned by a local man took a big pot at Cheltenham.
Lecky Watson obliged in the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase on Day Two of Cheltenham,at 20/1 for the Carlow-based Slaneyville Syndicate, which is primarily composed of members of the Byrne family, from Tullow, Co. Carlow, as well as PJ Murphy, from Drumraney.
PJ's late wife, Catherine, was a member of the Byrne family.
PJ is well known for his long association with the South Westmeath Hunt Point to Point.
The syndicate, which has been existence for many years, purchased the horse at the age of three.
Trained by Willie Mullins, Lecky Watson was ridden to victory by Sean O'Keeffe.
