IFA to meet in Athlone to discuss protection of peat soil farmers

The Irish Farmers' Association will host their National Meeting this Thursday, March 6 at 8pm in the Hodson Bay Hotel, Athlone.

The focus of the meeting will be on the protection of peat farmers.

A number of issues are set to be discussed as part of the meeting, including GAEC 2, which aims to protect carbon rich grasslands and peatlands; the reduction of intensity on peat soil farms; and the Natural Restoration Law.

The meeting will also discuss the updates on ACRES, Ireland's new agri-environment climate scheme under Ireland's CAP Strategic Plan.
